In a continued effort to bolster regional diplomacy and cooperation, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali met with KSA’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Waleed Elkhereiji, on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group meeting on Somalia, held in Doha, Qatar.

Somalia and KSA Express Shared Commitment to Deepening Cooperation

The high-level talks focused on reviewing the longstanding bilateral relationship between Somalia and KSA.
Both sides expressed a shared commitment to deepening cooperation across political, economic, and development sectors.

During the meeting, the Somalia and KSA ministers discussed recent developments in the Horn of Africa and the broader Islamic world.

They also discussed efforts to address regional security challenges, counterterrorism strategies, and initiatives for economic resilience.

    New Collaboration Opportunities

Moreover, they explored new opportunities for collaboration in humanitarian assistance, trade, and investment — key pillars of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 foreign engagement strategy.

Saudi Ambassador to Qatar, Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan, was also in attendance, reaffirming the Kingdom’s continued support for Somalia’s stability and development.

Somalia and Saudi Arabia – A New Chapter of Cooperation in 2025

    Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation in 2025

In 2025, Somalia–Saudi Arabia relations have gained renewed momentum, underpinned by mutual interests in regional stability, maritime security, and economic development.

Saudi Arabia has increasingly positioned itself as a key partner in Somalia’s reconstruction efforts, offering financial aid, technical support, and investment in infrastructure and energy.

The Kingdom has also played an active role in supporting humanitarian operations in Somalia.
    Particularly in drought-affected regions.

Recent aid packages from Saudi relief agencies have included food assistance, water access programs, and health support for displaced communities.

Critical Ties to Achieve More in Diplomacy

Economically, discussions are underway between Somalia and KSA to enhance bilateral trade.
Especially in livestock exports—a major Somali economic sector—and to attract Saudi investment in Somalia’s ports and logistics corridors.

As Somalia prepares for broader regional integration and continued reforms, its ties with Saudi Arabia are expected to be critical in unlocking new diplomatic and development opportunities.
