Digital Spine Damage is a silent epidemic that almost every one of us deals with because we spend nearly all our waking hours looking at some kind of screen. Whether you are scrolling through social media on your phone or typing away at your office computer you are likely putting your back and neck through a lot of stress without even knowing it. This Digital Spine Stress happens because our bodies were never designed to be hunched over for hours at a time like a frozen statue. When you tilt your head forward just a little bit to read a text message the weight on your neck jumps from about 12 pounds to over 60 pounds which is like carrying a large dog on your shoulders. This constant pressure leads to Digital Spine Stress by wearing down the discs between your bones and making your muscles feel tight and tired all the time. If you notice that your shoulders are starting to round forward or that you get headaches after a long day of work it is a clear sign that the Digital Spine Stress is already starting to take a toll on your body.

The reason why Digital Spine Stress is so hard to stop is that our devices are addictive and we often forget to move for hours once we start a task. This Digital Spine Stress is not just about a little bit of neck pain; it can actually change the natural curve of your spine over many years which makes you look older and move slower. When you sit in a chair that doesn’t support your lower back it adds to the Digital Spine Stress by compressing your lumbar discs and causing that nagging ache that never seems to go away. Experts now call this “Tech Neck” or “Text Neck” but the root cause is always the same: we are living in a world built for screens instead of humans. This Digital Spine Stress can even affect your breathing and your mood because a slumped posture makes it harder for your lungs to get enough oxygen and can make you feel more stressed out. To fight back against Digital Spine Stress you have to be very mindful of how you hold your body and make sure your screens are always at eye level so your head stays balanced where it belongs.

Simple Ways to Prevent Digital Spine Damage Daily

First you can stop Digital Spine Stress by following the “20-20-20 rule” where every twenty minutes you look away from your screen and stand up to stretch your arms and back. Second to reduce Digital Spine Stress you should hold your phone up to your face instead of dropping your head down to your lap which keeps your neck in a straight line. Third you can fight Digital Spine Damage by investing in a good chair that supports the natural “S” shape of your back so you don’t slouch while you type.

Fourth a great way to avoid Digital Spine Damage is to use a standing desk for part of the day so your muscles stay active and your blood keeps flowing through your legs and spine. Fifth you can heal some of the Digital Spine Damage by doing basic neck rolls and shoulder shrugs every hour to release the tension that builds up in your upper body. Sixth and finally you should avoid the Digital Spine Damage caused by lying in bed with your laptop because that position puts the most unnatural pressure on your lower spine and neck.

Finding a Balance for a Healthier Future

While we cannot throw away our phones or quit our computer jobs we can certainly change the way we interact with them to stop Digital Spine Damage from getting worse. It is all about building small habits like checking your posture every time you pick up your device so that Digital Spine Damage doesn’t become a lifelong disability. Most people ignore the small aches in their neck until they become sharp pains but the best time to care about Digital Spine Damage is right now before the damage is too deep to fix easily.
