    Somalia’s Infrastructure Development: Bridging the Gap to Economic Prosperity

    As of 2017, Somalia has invested $1.5 million in infrastructure projects. Strengthening Somalia’s infrastructure is critical to economic and social development. Strong infrastructure can overcome many economic problems. The Port of Mogadishu is being expanded for $100 million, increasing trade and logistics.

    Due to the increase in trade, the country’s economy develops. In addition, the road network, which consists of only 2,000 km of paved roads, is being expanded with international funding to facilitate connectivity and integrate the various tribes that make up Somali society. It is an important step.

    Transport Infrastructure: Roads and Ports Expansion

    In terms of connectivity, Somalia has only 2,000 km of paved roads out of 22,000 km of roads. Somalia’s road network is sparse. Somalia has invested 1.5 million since 2017 to improve the city and trade corridors. So those roads can be widened, and trade problems can be solved. Road expansion is also an important initiative to improve the connectivity of the tribes with each other.

    Many efforts and plans are being made to update the roads in Somalia, and investments are also being made to widen the roads. Mogadishu port is undergoing a $100 million expansion aimed at streamlining trade corridors and increasing cargo handling capacity by 60%.

    Energy and Power Development

    Access to energy and electricity is very limited in Somalia. An expansion of 50 MW is expected by 2025. For which many projects are being implemented. Construction of solar power plants and wind farms are major projects. Through which access to electricity can be facilitated. About 70% of the population in Somalia has access to electricity.

    Electricity access is very limited in the affected areas and rural areas due to which people face a lot of problems. To solve these problems, the government is implementing several plans to tackle the power and energy crisis and to facilitate access to electricity.

    Telecommunications and Digital Connectivity

    About 90% of the population in Somalia has access to mobile networks. For this reason, Somalia’s telecom system is developing rapidly. This development also provides an opportunity to advance financial inclusion. Digital networking also provides many facilities to people, which has a significant role in the development of business and economy in Somali society.

    The government is improving internet and fiber optic access by investing $50. So that digital and networking can be improved and simplified in Somali society and many facilities and employment opportunities can be provided to the people through it. Money mobile services, especially M-Pesa serve more than 60% of the population.

    Somalia has invested 1.5 million since 2017 to expand roads and ports. To promote trade and improve connectivity by widening roads and ports. Despite the severe power crisis, the Somali government has invested 50 megawatts to develop electricity so that people can have easy access to electricity. Despite many challenges faced, transport networking and power issues have been addressed.

    Electricity is expected to expand by 2025. 90% of people in Somalia have access to the telecom sector. Most of the users are covered by Mini Mobile’s services. Digital and net services are strong in Somali society and provide different platforms for people. Despite the many problems faced by Somali society, the international organization.
