Somalia is a highly underdeveloped and impoverished country where unemployment, conflict, and political instability coexist. Due to these problems, many other issues arise, including the problem of education. Here, due to poverty and unemployment, about 40 percent of the children learn from work and are unable to study. In Somalia, only 27 percent of lucky children go to primary school whose parents have good jobs. Getting secondary education also must face expenses which is the reason why only 20% of children here can get success in secondary education.

This situation is very serious for the future of Somalia. It is necessary to end serious problems like political instability and unemployment, improve the education system, and make access to it easier. Only then can the economic and financial situation in Somalia improve.

Prevalence of Child Labor in Somalia

Due to the poor economic and financial conditions of Somalia, the children here also must work together with the adults. According to a recent survey, it has been found that there are about 1.5 million children in Somalia who have never gone to school for education but work as laborers in search of employment.

This situation is troubling for Somalia and if we want to get out of this situation, it is necessary to improve the political situation in Somalia and introduce a safe and easily accessible education system that allows the children of both the rich and the poor alike. can get an education. Otherwise, children here will continue to work without education and will continue to be subjected to mental and physical violence. The government should take steps to employ so that parents do not have to make their children work due to economic problems.

    Barriers to Accessing Education

Somalia is suffering from many problems at once. Here children are unable to get an education due to political instability, bad infrastructure, lack of educated teachers, lack of good schools, and unsafe environment. Due to conflicts and droughts here, children are unable to get an education due to migration every year and they must work to meet the needs of their lives. Here girls are not sent to school under tribal rules. These are some of the issues that come up as major barriers to access to education.

Impact of Conflict and Poverty on Education and Child Welfare

As mentioned above, dependence on child labor is increasing here due to many challenges. The environment is particularly unsafe due to the ongoing conflicts here. Schools are dilapidated and due to this, there is a shortage of teachers. And that’s why parents can’t send their children to school.

Another major reason is poverty here. The income of one person is not enough to support the family, so parents force their children to work so that the system of their homes can run. These challenges are very alarming for Somalia.

To end child labor in Somalia, it is important to make the education system here easy and safe for all children. And this is possible only when political instability, poverty, and conflicts end here. Unemployment is also a major cause of child labor. The government should provide employment opportunities so that people can educate their children instead of making them work.
