The construction of Garacad Port in Puntland aims to establish a major trading hub while boosting the regional economy. The project will improve infrastructure and increase shipping capacity, which is expected to result in investment flows and further strengthen Puntland’s role in the Horn of Africa’s trade landscape. With the provision of modern facilities, the development of this port is seen as a foundation for regional development and stability.

    Garacad Port: A Game-Changer for Puntland’s Economy

The development of Garacad Port is expected to increase Puntland’s GDP by 15% over the next decade. With an initial investment of $200 million, the project will provide over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, significantly transforming the local economy.

Impact of Port Development on Regional Trade

The establishment of Garacad Port is expected to increase regional trade by up to 20%, resulting in a 10% increase in annual shipping volumes. Its modern facilities will improve the process of importing and exporting goods, further increasing Puntland’s importance in the maritime industry of the Horn of Africa.

Future Prospects: Port’s Role in Horn of Africa’s Maritime Network

Once operational, Garacademy Port will have a capacity to handle over 1.5 million tonnes of cargo. As part of the larger East African trade connectivity project, it is expected to add $500 million annually to the regional economy, further cementing its strategic importance.

The development of Garakid Port has emerged as a major transformational project for Puntland and the entire Horn of Africa. By expanding trade routes and infrastructure, the port is expected to significantly boost regional economic growth and create new employment opportunities.

By focusing on appropriate investment and modern facilities, the project will establish Puntland as a major player in the East African maritime industry. Its long-term benefits include increased trade volumes, improved regional stability, and enhanced global connectivity. If the project is successful, Garacad Port could transform the region’s economic landscape in the years to come.
