Egypt and Somalia: Joint Efforts to Build Somalia’s Institutional Capacity
Egypt and Somalia ties that have evolved into a strategic partnership since the visit of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Cairo in January 2025.
During a meeting with his Somali counterpart, Foreign Minister Abdulsalam Abdi Ali, on the sidelines of the preparatory ministerial session for the Arab League Summit in Baghdad, Abdel Aaty emphasized Egypt’s unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Egyptian minister reiterated Cairo’s dedication to participating in joint African efforts to build Somalia’s institutional capacity.
And also to support the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
Moreover, he highlighted that Somalia’s stability is essential to the broader security and peace of the region.
Shared Experience and Technical Expertise Between Egypt and Somalia
The Egyptian minister emphasized the importance of coordinating with international partners.
In order to ensure effective peacekeeping and development operations.
Abdel Aaty underscored Egypt’s readiness to share its experience and technical expertise across various sectors to help Somalia strengthen its governance, maintain security, and achieve lasting development.
Solidarity
Recently, and in a significant gesture of regional solidarity and partnership, the Arab Republic of Egypt has dispatched multiple shipments of police uniforms to Somalia.
The move is part of a broader initiative to boost the security capabilities of the Somali police force, amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the Horn of Africa.
