    In a significant move to bolster regional health cooperation, Somalia Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Ali Haji Adam, chaired the Ministerial-Level Meeting of the Regional Steering Committee (ReSCo Meeting) in Djibouti.

    The meeting brought together 14 member states from Eastern and Central Africa.
    The members addressed urgent public health challenges and strengthen cross-border health collaboration.

    Somalia at the Forefront of Regional Health Leadership

    Somalia Minister of Health who has led ReSCo for the past three years, emphasized the importance of regional unity in combating the rising threats of infectious diseases and health emergencies.

    The meeting underscored Somalia’s leadership in promoting integrated health strategies and international cooperation across the region.

    Key Objectives and Outcomes of the ReSCo Meeting

    The high-level meeting focused on enhancing health security, coordinating joint disease surveillance systems, and improving emergency response frameworks.
    Among the most notable outcomes:

    • Formation of technical subcommittees to address critical health priorities
    • Cross-border coordination for infectious disease monitoring
    • Harmonization of early warning systems and outbreak control
    • Strengthened regional response to public health emergencies

    Election Preparations and Future Vision

    As ReSCo meeting prepares to elect a new Chairperson, Somalia was commended for advancing regional health diplomacy and setting a solid foundation for future leadership.

    Dr. Ali Haji Adam praised the progress made by member states and urged them to sustain momentum, emphasizing the necessity of resilience, cooperation, and shared responsibility in safeguarding regional health.

    “Only through unity can we protect our communities from emerging health threats,” Dr. Adam affirmed during his closing address.
