Somalia’s Ministry of Interior and Reconciliation Affairs has officially appointed technical committee to oversee the formation of the interim SSC-Khaatumo administration.
The decision follows the federal government’s recent recognition of SSC-Khaatumo as a new federal member state—an outcome of months of conflict and political shifts in northern Somalia.
SSC-Khaatumo Administration Technical Committee Members
In an official statement, the ministry confirmed that the committee will guide the establishment of the regional administration in alignment with Somalia’s constitutional processes and national reconciliation framework.
Dr. Ahmednur Mohamed Abdi has been named as the committee chair.
While Abdinasir Haji Mohamed will serve as deputy chair.
Other members include prominent figures from the Sanaag region, signaling the federal government’s intent to include Sanaag within the SSC-Khaatumo jurisdiction.
What is the Story of Khaatumo Conflict ?
The SSC-Khaatumo administration emerged after nearly a year of conflict between local forces and Somaliland troops.
Following a series of consultative meetings in Las Anod, traditional leaders and community elders from Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn officially declared their withdrawal from Somaliland and the formation of an independent administration.

Two months ago, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre made a historic visit to Las Anod.
During thevisit he formally recognized SSC-Khaatumo as Somalia’s newest federal member state.
This milestone visit underscored the federal government’s support and solidified SSC-Khaatumo’s control over the three regions.
The newly appointed committee is expected to fast-track institutional development, enhance governance structures, and support the political transition in SSC-Khaatumo.
