The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a stark warning that people in the Gaza Strip can no longer afford food which deepens Gaza food crisis.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, UNRWA highlighted the scale of the crisis, noting that the price of essential food items has skyrocketed.

For instance, the cost of one kilogram of tomatoes, previously priced at just $0.60, has now surged to $15—if available at all.

How the Agricultural Lands Situation Affects Gaza Food Crisis?

According to the agency, nearly all of Gaza’s agricultural land is either destroyed or inaccessible, leaving thousands of families who once relied on farming with no source of income.

UNRWA stressed that “people cannot afford the food that is starting to appear in markets,” emphasizing that “an unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid” is essential to rebuild the agricultural sector.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini echoed this message, calling on world powers to ensure free and unhindered access for humanitarian assistance to UNRWA and international NGOs operating in Gaza.

Cairo Prepares for New Round of Palestinian Talks

As regional and international efforts continue to solidify a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, Palestinian sources revealed that Egypt has launched intensive preparations to host a new round of talks with Palestinian factions in Cairo.

Delegations from Hamas and Islamic Jihad are expected to arrive within days to discuss the next phase of the U.S.- and Egypt-brokered ceasefire agreement.
Focusing on the management of the Rafah border crossing and the secure flow of humanitarian aid.

    When Will Rafah Border Open?

A Palestinian source told Sky News Arabia that the crossing will remain closed from the Israeli side until Tel Aviv officially approves its full handover and withdrawal.

The proposed plan reportedly involves transferring control of the crossing to a joint Palestinian committee under the Palestinian Authority, supported by an existing EU-Palestinian framework.

    Washington’s Plan Under Review

Meanwhile, reports from Washington suggest that the U.S. is discussing a proposal to deploy an international stabilization force in Gaza.

According to Reuters, the force would not take direct control of security but would instead focus on maintaining stability and monitoring conditions on the ground.

U.S. officials are also studying the establishment of safe zones for civilians and have assured that no residents will be forced to leave Gaza.

    Gaza Reconstruction Funds

Reconstruction funds, they added, will only be directed to areas under the Palestinian Authority’s governance.

The proposal outlines several stages — beginning with a complete ceasefire, hostage release, and prisoner exchange, and culminating in a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the return of Palestinian administrative control over the Rafah crossing.
