Somalia is a backward and poor country where many challenges are faced. There are many problems that hinder Somalia’s development, such as drought, lack of rainfall, political instability, terrorist organizations occupying large areas, poverty, unemployment, conflicts, and food shortages. For the economic and financial development of Somalia, it is necessary to deal with these challenges first.

According to a survey, about 7 million people are affected by Taweel drought and poverty and 23 million people are homeless. There are militant groups like al-Shabaab that are an obstacle to investment, and more than $1.5 billion in international aid has been provided to Somalia to combat such groups.

Causes of the Humanitarian Crisis in Somalia

There are many reasons for the humanitarian crisis in Somalia, one of the main reasons being climate change. Due to climate change, there is a long-term drought, which destroys the agricultural sector and reduces the production of crops. And then there is a food shortage due to the decrease in crop production, people’s livestock dies, and people must migrate, which increases their dependence on humanitarian aid.

The second major reason here is political instability, due to which the country’s condition is not improving, and the security system is in a state of collapse. Terrorist militant groups have taken control of large areas due to which foreign investment is affected.

Impact on the Population and Economy

People are facing difficulties due to the challenges present here. Every year a large population is displaced and displaced. According to a conservative estimate, about two million people are homeless and several million people are suffering from malnutrition. Due to drought, people’s livestock dies, to which their employment is related.

The agriculture and livestock sectors are the backbone of Somalia, and these two sectors are the most affected. And because of this, Somalia’s economic and economic development is seriously threatened, which is causing unemployment to increase day by day.

    International Aid and Response Efforts

So far, Somalia has received more than 1.5 billion dollars from the international community to deal with these challenges. But even after receiving this aid, Somalia could not get out of the list of poverty, unemployment, and terrorism. Here, the people affected by the disaster caused by the drought are provided by the international community with food, shelter, and health care.

But this is not a permanent solution to deal with these challenges. To get rid of these challenges, it is necessary to end political instability here, eliminate groups like Al-Shabaab, and then promote international investment.

In the end, when it comes to solving and achieving results, it is important to understand that to establish peace and improve the economic situation in Somalia, the end of political instability is necessary. After the end of political instability, the security environment here can be improved and foreign investment can be introduced, which can eliminate unemployment among the youth of this country and improve its livelihood. How long will Somalia survive with aid? Aid is not the only solution to the challenges.
