Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash, legal advisor to the Palestinian president, criticized Hamas’s move to enter talks about disarmament following acceptance of a U.S. proposal.
Palestinian presidential advisor said that the group “seeks to reproduce cycles of pain and crisis” endured by Gaza’s population since 2007.
Palestinian Presidential Advisor Talks About Gaza
Speaking on the TV program Evening New with Yusuf Al-Husseini, Al-Habbash reiterated the official Palestinian position: Gaza is part of the state of Palestine and must be governed under one law, one authority, and one national government.
Al-Habbash argued that the presence of multiple armed forces fuels internal conflict and warned that Hamas’s weapons pose a risk to Palestinian society.
He accused Hamas of using arms against Palestinians during the 2007 takeover and cited a recent attack on the Al-Majaydi family—an honored Gaza household with many martyrs and prisoners—as evidence of harms caused by internal violence.

Can Palestine Focus on National Rebuilding?
The Palestinian presidential advisor also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alleging the latter has no interest in ending the war and may seek pretexts to continue hostilities.
Al-Habbash closed by lamenting that Palestinians have paid dearly—”more than 250,000 killed and wounded,” he said—and urged an end to internal divisions so Palestine can focus on national rebuilding and confronting occupation.
