Puntland security forces today effectively foiled attacks by Islamic State militants on several military bases in the Bari region. The militants launched a systematic attack with heavy artillery, but the Puntland forces repelled the attacks with quick air support and secured the area.

Over 20 militants were killed during the clashes, and several military vehicles and weapons were captured. Security forces have increased the number of checkpoints and patrols in the area to avoid further threats, keeping the area under tight security. The government has expressed its determination to continue its fight against extremism while praising the force’s prompt action.

Puntland Forces’ Tactical Response to Islamic State Assaults

Puntland’s security forces deployed more than 300 specialist soldiers to defend key military bases, which were under attack. The attack was thwarted within 6 hours by airstrikes and artillery support from local and international allies. The forces maintained 95% operational readiness, enabling them to quickly mobilize and secure bases.

Key Locations Targeted in the Islamic State Attack

The attacks were carried out on three important military bases in the Bari area, spread over a total area of 100 square kilometers. Militants tried to break into other military installations but faced stiff resistance. Based on recent intelligence reports, these bases were already on high alert, adding to the effectiveness of the defense.

Casualties and Damage from the Clashes

More than 20 Islamic State fighters and 10 Puntland soldiers were killed in the clashes. Meanwhile, several vehicles of militants, including 5 armed trucks, were destroyed, and more than 50 kg of explosives were recovered. Thanks to the quick response of the forces, damage to military equipment was limited, avoiding additional loss of life and property.

Increased Security Measures in Puntland Following the Attacks

After the attacks, security patrols in the affected areas increased by 75%. 50 new check posts have been set up on the main routes and the surveillance system has been modernized. These additional security measures are aimed at preventing future attacks and ensuring stability in the area.

The successful repulse of Islamic State attacks in Puntland is a clear indication of the strength and readiness of the security forces. Despite heavy losses to the militants, the region has been able to maintain control and keep tensions from escalating. Through continuous monitoring and strong security measures, it is hoped to reduce the strength of extremist groups and establish lasting stability in the region.
