In a statement, the SNA confirmed that the operation was executed as planned, dismantling a network of Al-Shabaab operatives active in the region.
As part of the broader offensive, the SNA forces also captured several militant leaders and operatives during the liberation of Bariire, a strategically important town in the Lower Shabelle region.
A state media correspondent on the ground in Bariire interviewed captured fighters, including a senior commander who revealed he had been shackled by fellow militants prior to his arrest.
Another injured Al-Shabaab leader confirmed that all members of his unit were killed during the operation.
The Somali National Army decisive action marks another significant step in weakening Al-Shabaab’s operational capacity and restoring stability to key areas in southern Somalia.
