Leading Somali opposition figures are holding talks to form a new political alliance aimed at challenging President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, amid growing concerns that he is seeking to manipulate upcoming elections and consolidate power.
Who’s Involved?
The meeting, hosted at former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed’s residence, brought together former Prime Ministers Hassan Ali Khaire and Mohamed Hussein Roble.
As well as veteran opposition leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame.
Former Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon “Saacid” is also expected to join the emerging coalition.
What Are The Somali Opposition Leaders Planning For?
The leaders are exploring the creation of a new political bloc focused on electoral strategy and Somalia’s national transition.
This move signals discontent with the current Salvation Forum opposition alliance, which some accuse the government of trying to weaken by co-opting certain figures.

A Strategic Move Before of Elections
With Somalia preparing for key electoral cycles, the potential formation of a new alliance could reshape the political landscape.
While the Salvation Forum continues its dialogue with the government, the push for a fresh coalition highlights opposition frustration with stalled political negotiations and concerns over fair elections.
