In a high-level meeting held in Cairo, new horizons for Somalia and Egypt military cooperation were opened.

Somali and Egyptian defense leaders, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and General Abdel Majeed Saqr, met along with senior Egyptian military officials to discuss expanding defense collaboration and supporting peace efforts across the Horn of Africa.

Somalia and Egypt Military Cooperation Faces Shared Threats

During the talks, Minister Fiqi emphasized Somalia’s determination to deepen ties with Egypt in order to address security challenges and promote regional stability.

He praised Cairo’s longstanding role in supporting peace initiatives in Africa, noting that both nations share a strategic outlook on issues of common concern.

According to Somali officials, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral defense cooperation, joint training programs, and coordination in counterterrorism operations.

Minister Fiqi underlined that Somalia views Egypt not only as a trusted regional partner but also as a key ally in safeguarding stability across the Red Sea and Horn of Africa region.

Strengthening defense ties, he said, would help both nations respond more effectively to shared threats, while also supporting broader African peace and security frameworks.

    Egypt’s Commitment to Somalia’s Security

For his part, General Saqr reiterated Egypt’s readiness to expand military ties with Somalia and contribute to long-term peacebuilding efforts.

He highlighted Egypt’s participation in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), confirming that Egyptian troops are preparing to deploy to Somalia as part of the mission’s upcoming stabilization operations.

This deployment, Egyptian officials noted, reflects Cairo’s firm commitment to Somalia’s security and its willingness to support Mogadishu’s efforts to build resilient defence capabilities.

By working alongside Somali forces and other African Union partners, Egypt aims to contribute to counterterrorism initiatives, capacity building, and strengthening regional security coordination.

The Somali and Egyptian Defense Leaders Own A Shared Strategic Vision

Both sides framed the Cairo meeting as part of ongoing efforts to advance shared strategic objectives and reinforce regional partnerships.

The Somali and Egyptian defense leaders agreed that stronger bilateral cooperation is essential not only for combating security threats but also for promoting stability and sustainable development across the Horn of Africa.

The talks highlight a growing recognition of the importance of regional defense partnerships in addressing complex challenges such as terrorism, piracy, and cross-border threats.

With Egypt’s support and Somalia’s commitment to rebuilding its security sector, the two countries hope to pave the way for a more secure and stable future for the region.
