    In a significant diplomatic meeting, Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdisalam Abdi Ali met with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on the sidelines of preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad.

    The two ministers emphasized the need to leverage the summit as a platform for launching joint regional initiatives to tackle pressing political and economic challenges.

    Somalia and Iraq Reaffirm Support for Dialogue in Resolving Crises

    Both ministers underscored the mutual commitment of Somalia and Iraq to peaceful dialogue as the primary solution to conflicts in the region.

    They reaffirmed their countries’ positions as strong advocates of diplomacy and collaboration within the Arab League framework.

    Somalia and Iraq Bilateral Cooperation

    During the meeting, the ministers discussed ways to boost bilateral cooperation, particularly in the political, security, and economic sectors.

    They agreed on the importance of activating joint mechanisms and committees to serve the interests of both nations.

    Fuad Hussein welcomed his Somali counterpart to Baghdad and highlighted the deep-rooted brotherly ties between Somalia and Iraq.

    He reiterated Iraq’s keenness to expand cooperation with Somalia and other Arab nations, emphasizing the role of joint Arab action in addressing regional challenges.

    Somalia ranks as Africa’s 2nd most corrupt country in 2024.

    Official Visit Invitation to Strengthen Somalia-Iraq Relations

    In a gesture of goodwill, Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali extended a formal invitation to Fuad Hussein to visit Somalia.

    The proposed visit aims to further enhance diplomatic relations, boost bilateral cooperation, and build long-term partnerships between the two nations.
