Spring tired feeling is something that many people deal with even though we are supposed to be happy that the winter is finally over and the sun is coming out again. You might find yourself wanting to sleep all day or feeling like your legs are made of lead even if you didn’t do any hard work at the gym. This spring tiredness is actually a real thing that doctors call seasonal lethargy and it happens because your brain is trying to adjust to the new light and the warmer air. Your hormones like melatonin which helps you sleep and serotonin which makes you happy are all mixed up during this time which leads to the spring tiredness we all know too well. It is not just in your head but it is a physical change in your blood and your nerves as the world moves from the dark cold months into the bright new season. If you are struggling with a spring tiredness right now you should know that you are not alone and there are simple ways to help your body catch up with the clock.

The science behind the spring tired feeling and your internal clock

One of the main reasons for the spring tiredness is that the days are getting longer and your body is getting more vitamin D but it hasn’t learned how to use it properly yet. This part of the spring tired feeling is linked to your blood vessels opening up more because of the warmth which makes your blood pressure drop a little bit and makes you feel dizzy or weak. Another big part of the spring tired feeling is the pollen in the air which makes your immune system work overtime and leaves you feeling drained of all your energy by the afternoon. To fight the spring tiredness you should try to spend more time outside in the morning light so your brain knows that the winter is really gone for good. This spring tired feeling usually lasts for about two or three weeks while your system resets itself to the new schedule of the earth.

To lower the impact of the spring tiredness you should focus on eating fresh vegetables and fruits that have a lot of vitamin C and magnesium to support your heart and your muscles. Drinking lots of water is also a great way to wash away the spring tiredness because it helps your circulation stay strong even when the weather is jumping between hot and cold. If you find that the spring tiredness is making it hard to work you should try taking short power naps during the day to give your brain a quick break from the light. You can also try cold showers in the morning to wake up your skin and send a signal to your heart that it is time to get moving and leave the spring tiredness behind. It is a very natural part of being a human being who lives with the seasons so don’t be too hard on yourself if you are not running marathons just yet.

Final thoughts on a very sleepy time of the year

We have to realize that our bodies are very sensitive to the world around us and the spring tired feeling is just a sign that we are connected to the nature. As the flowers start to grow and the birds start to sing your body is also doing a lot of work inside to prepare for the summer months ahead. The spring tired feeling will pass soon and you will find your old energy returning better than it was before the winter started.
