Due to environmental and climatic changes in Somalia, there are frequent droughts. Some areas experience droughts throughout the year. The absence of rain and drought causes extreme damage to crops. Drought in Somalia affects the agricultural sector the most, and this agrarian sector is as important as the backbone of Somalia’s economy.

Due to the same drought, many other sectors are also affected in Somalia, livestock and food sectors are also being badly affected. Tourism is also having a bad effect due to the same reason. The biggest loss of drought is that economic and economic development is destroyed here, and poverty is increasing. People must move in large numbers, which increases their dependence on aid.

In terms of statistics, the effects of drought in Somalia are as follows:

The drought in Somalia is a major obstacle to the economy and economic development there, the losses are very high. In Somalia, from 2023 until now, approximately 2.8 million people have been displaced due to displacement and migration and their dependence on foreign aid has increased.

The farming system has been destroyed and food shortages have occurred due to the dramatic decline in crop yields. This is the reason that there has been a decrease of about 70% in crop production and 50 to 80% loss of animals in livestock.

Impact on Agricultural Production and Food Security

The drought that occurs in Somalia has bad effects on the population. Due to this drought, the agricultural sector is in a state of destruction due to which the production of crops has decreased by 70%. This dramatic shortfall in crops creates food shortages that leave nearly 6.5 million people undernourished.

All these reasons lead to severe food shortages and people are forced to migrate and then these displaced people are more dependent on external assistance.

    Livestock Losses and Economic Consequences

Somalia’s economy is most dependent on agriculture and livestock. Up to 80% of the people here depend only on the cattle kept in their homes. People breed cattle at home and then use their milk and meat as a source of livelihood.

However, due to the drought in Somalia, these people suffer severe losses due to the death of their animals. In some areas of Somalia, animal mortality has increased to 80% due to drought. The best measures must be taken to deal with the damage caused by malnutrition.

    Displacement and Humanitarian Crises

Due to drought in Somalia, about 2.8 million people are forced to migrate every year. Conditions worsen due to food shortages and the dependence of the people living in the camps on external aid increases. Providing facilities for such many immigrants is not an easy process. To meet their needs, foreign aid must be resorted to.

Somalia is facing serious consequences due to drought. Drought caused by climate change causes barren land, which destroys the ecosystem. Due to the decrease in the production of crops, a food shortage is created and due to this food shortage, almost 5.6 million people are forced to migrate every year. Displacement increases the dependence of the homeless on foreign aid. This drought also causes the death of livestock. It is necessary to implement the best organization at the government level to face problems like drought.
