About 90% of people in Somalia are identified by their own clans. Here tribal conflicts take the form of war. These tribes play an important role in peace, unity, political stability, and decision-making in Somalia. Many tribes are rebels who disturb the peace here, they want only their rule here and their decisions should be accepted. And some tribes play an important role in the promotion of political stability here, they understand that the state does not plan for one tribe but for all tribes.

And the only solution to the problems and challenges in Somalia is political stability. Here, according to tribal laws, girls cannot study in school, college, or university. Girls are kept away from their basic rights. If the tribes play a positive role, they can be effective in the politics and elections of Somalia.

Clan Dynamics and Political Representation in Somalia

Tribes in Somalia are socially and politically important. There are big tribes here who have a big vote bank and here the nominated candidates for elections cannot be nominated without the consent of the tribes. Tribes play a major role in any political campaign and its success.

Tribes can win if they want and lose if they want. Here, the interim federal governments allocate posts in the best way to protect the tribes from dispersal and to maintain their balance. If justice is not done in the distribution of these posts, there is a fear that the situation will worsen.

The Impact of Clan-based Power-sharing on Governance

Somalia’s tribal system is very strong. If they want, these tribes can form the government, and they can also break the government. Formula 4.5 is used so that the tribes do not dominate the federal government of Somalia. All the tribes are allocated positions so that the unity of the tribes can be maintained with the government.

The consent of these tribes is included in the decision-making and the solution of the problems is found by finding a middle way. These clans are a strong structure for Somali politics, but they can also be ineffective. Tribes have complete control over their people, it is done as they want, and this thing can prove to be an obstacle in the way of a stable government.

Challenges and Opportunities of Clan Influence in State-Building

Tribes are a strong pillar in Somalia. They can also increase the challenges for Somalia and play a positive role in its improvement. Here there are many tribes who are part of the federal government and do not allow the people to disperse and keep the tribes together. While there are some tribes who are rebels and because of them, Somalia is suffering from political instability.

These tribes have full control over their people and can do as they want. Political elections in Somalia cannot be held without the will of the tribes. The tribes are not dispersed among themselves, so they are given special positions. These tribes can play the best role in governance if they help to improve their community socially.

The traditional tribal system of Somalia is very strong. Even today, the civil war has not ended due to tribal decisions. These tribes can be important in connecting the community, but on the other hand, these tribes are one of the biggest challenges for the government. Here, to keep the tribes together, they are awarded special seats and given special positions. This is done because the people there trust their tribal decisions more than the government.
