Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, is currently testing a series of updates aimed at improving the quality of photo and video sharing through the app, with the goal of making communication faster, more efficient, and affordable for users around the world.
WhatsApp New Features Coming First to iPhones
Meta has confirmed that WhatsApp high-quality media sharing feature will first roll out on iOS devices, with support for Android devices to follow soon after.
This improvement is part of Meta’s broader strategy to strengthen WhatsApp’s position in a competitive market alongside apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger—all key platforms for social interaction globally.
WhatsApp Introduces “Status Ads” for the First Time
Meta announced more WhatsApp new features, including advertising feature called “Status Ads”, which will appear only in the Status Updates section, ensuring that private conversations remain ad-free.
These ads are specifically designed to encourage users to interact with businesses via direct messages, offering a less intrusive and more targeted approach to business engagement.

WhatsApp Channels to Become a Revenue Source
As part of its monetization strategy, Meta plans to capitalize on “Channels” in WhatsApp through two new revenue models:
- Search-based advertising
- Monthly subscriptions for exclusive content
Channel admins will be able to offer premium content for a fee, and Meta is expected to take a 10% commission from these subscriptions in the future.
WhatsApp Is Meta’s “Next Chapter” of Growth
According to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, WhatsApp represents the “next chapter” in the company’s growth, as he emphasized during a 2022 interview with CNBC.
WhatsApp new features that include commercial tools and monetization will become central pillars in Meta’s long-term expansion plans.
