    Harmful social habits shape daily life in Somalia and often hurt people’s well-being without folks realizing it right away. Things like chewing khat or certain old customs passed down for years bring risks that add up over time. Harmful social habits come from culture family pressure or just what everyone does around you making them hard to change even when they cause pain or sickness.

    In communities these ways feel normal like a way to fit in or handle stress. But doctors and groups now speak out more about the downsides especially for women and kids.

    Common Harmful Social Habits in Somalia

    One big one is female genital mutilation or FGM done on almost all girls here. Surveys show 99 percent of women aged 15 to 49 went through it mostly the severe type that closes parts up. Families think it keeps girls pure or ready for marriage but it leads to bad infections bleeding during birth and long pain. Harmful social habits like this put girls at risk young and problems follow them forever.
