In a significant move to strengthen regional security and support Somalia’s fight against terrorism, the Saudi Council of Ministers approved a new security cooperation agreement with the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

This was during its session held on Tuesday, May 20, in Jeddah, presided over by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Goals of KSA-Somalia Security Cooperation Agreement:

KSA-Somalia Security Cooperation Agreement aims to enhance cooperation between Saudi Arabia’s Presidency of State Security and Somalia’s NISA.

It focuses on intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism operations, and capacity building.
The collaboration specifically targets extremist groups such as al-Shabaab and ISIS.
As both of which continue to pose significant threats to the Horn of Africa’s security and stability.

This milestone follows the recent defense cooperation pact signed between the Ministries of Defense of the two countries.

It underscores a deepening strategic relationship between Saudi Arabia and Somalia across security and diplomatic dimensions.

Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Somalia’s Security

The Saudi Cabinet emphasized the strategic importance of KSA-Somalia Security Cooperation Agreement. Reaffirming the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to supporting Somalia’s stability and sovereignty.

Officials noted that such cooperation aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader goals of promoting peace and combating terrorism across the region.

According to regional security analysts, the agreement marks a pivotal step in fostering mutual security interests.
As it is enabling the two nations to better coordinate responses to shared threats.
Including cross-border terrorism, intelligence gaps, and organized crime.

This agreement is also viewed as part of a wider international push to assist Somalia in rebuilding its institutions.
It also improves internal security following decades of conflict and insurgency.

With support from strategic allies like Saudi Arabia, Somalia hopes to gain ground in its fight against violent extremist groups, restore law and order, and establish sustainable governance.
