Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has ramped up its aid efforts in Somalia, delivering critical food assistance to vulnerable communities affected by ongoing conflict and displacement.

In a recent initiative, KSrelief humanitarian mission distributed 1,200 food baskets in Baidoa district, located in the Bay region of southwestern Somalia.

This vital aid reached 7,200 individuals, supporting families suffering from chronic food insecurity, one of the most severe challenges in Somalia today.

This initiative is part of KSrelief humanitarian mission that also includes emergency support to Syria and Sudan, showcasing the organization’s growing role as a global relief provider.

KSrelief Humanitarian Mission: Achievements in Numbers

Since its establishment in May 2015, KSrelief has carried out 3,438 humanitarian projects in 107 countries, valued at over $7.9 billion.

These efforts span a wide range of support, including food security, health care, education, and infrastructure rehabilitation.
This is in partnership with more than 318 humanitarian organizations worldwide.

In Somalia, KSrelief has repeatedly supported famine relief and post-conflict recovery efforts, aligning with international goals to stabilize the Horn of Africa.

Somalia: A Country in Crisis and Focus of International Humanitarian Support

For over three decades, Somalia has endured civil war, famine, drought, and extremist violence, leaving millions displaced and in urgent need of assistance.

In 2023 alone, the UN estimated that over 8 million Somalis required humanitarian support.

Thanks to collaborative efforts from global donors and humanitarian agencies, Somalia has seen over $6.3 billion in humanitarian funding from international NGOs and government donors between 2011 and 2024.

    Somalia’s Top Donors

The US remains the top bilateral donor, contributing more than $1.6 billion in humanitarian aid between 2022 and 2023.

The European Union, UK, Germany, and Gulf countries—including UAE and KSA—are also key supporters.

Notably, the UN and humanitarian partners launched a $1.6 billion appeal in 2024 to assist 5.2 million people in Somalia, covering needs related to food security, displacement, healthcare, and climate resilience.

KSrelief Humanitarian Mission: A Global Commitment

Beyond Somalia, KSrelief recent activities include distributing 2,290 food baskets and hygiene kits in Sarmada, Idlib Governorate, Syria, reaching 6,870 people.

Moreover, KSrelief humanitarian mission provided 825 food baskets to 3,986 people in Sudan’s Blue Nile State.

These efforts underscore KSA commitment to alleviating suffering in conflict zones and disaster-stricken areas.

KSrelief continues to serve as a cornerstone of KSA’s global humanitarian diplomacy, offering support regardless of political affiliations or geographical boundaries.

Coordinated Relief Key to Somalia’s Recovery

Somalia’s road to recovery depends not only on domestic governance and security reforms but also on sustained international assistance.

With agencies like KSrelief stepping up support and international NGOs continuing to provide billions in aid, there is renewed hope for a more stable and secure Somalia.

As global crises evolve, the collaborative approach between Gulf states, Western donors, and local partners will remain essential in reaching Somalia’s most vulnerable communities.
