    The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, led a senior-level delegation at the 8th Arab Regional Platform for DRR “Disaster Risk Reduction”, a key international forum hosted in Geneva.

    The event brought together leaders from across the Arab region and beyond to discuss urgent strategies for enhancing disaster preparedness, resilience, and risk reduction.

    The Somali delegation included top government officials.
    They actively participated in regional and global discussions focused on disaster risk reduction (DRR).
    Emphasizing Somalia’s growing role in the global resilience and recovery agenda.

    Commissioner of SoDMA Meetings at 8th Arab Regional Platform for DRR

    As part of the conference, Commissioner Mahamuud engaged in high-impact bilateral meetings with major international stakeholders and development agencies, including:

    • The Deputy Head of the World Bank and Director of its Infrastructure Development Office
    • The Head of the Fund for Recovery from Loss and Damage (FRLD)
    • The Director of the Anticipation Hub for global disaster preparedness
    • The Head of the Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI)
    • Representatives from UNDP, IOM, FAO, and the CIMA Foundation
    • Senior officials from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
    • Leaders from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)

    Strengthening Somalia’s Collaboration with International Partners

    These high-level engagements at Arab Regional Platform for DRR centered on strengthening Somalia’s collaboration with international partners through technical support, funding, capacity-building, and knowledge-sharing in DRR.

    “Somalia is committed to advancing its National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy. Strong international partnerships are essential to mitigate the growing risks from both climate-related and human-induced disasters,” stated Commissioner Mahamuud.

    Global Partners Praises SoDMA’s Leadership

    Global partners praised SoDMA’s leadership and Somalia’s proactive approach to building national disaster resilience systems.

    Many pledged ongoing support to help implement Somalia’s DRR strategy, aimed at reducing the devastating impacts of recurrent floods, droughts, and other natural and man-made hazards.

    Somalia’s participation in the 8th Arab Regional Platform for DRR reaffirms its commitment to global disaster preparedness efforts.
    While advancing its national agenda for climate adaptation, early warning systems, and sustainable recovery planning.
