Somali-American academic Abdirizak Mohamed Ali has officially launched his campaign for mayor of Hopkins, marking a potential historic moment for the Somali diaspora in the United States.

In an interview with the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), Abdirizak described his candidacy as more than a personal pursuit.

He emphasized that his campaign reflects the broader aspirations of Somali-Americans seeking greater representation and leadership roles in U.S. cities.

    A Step Toward Representation

If elected, Abdirizak Mohamed Ali would become one of the first Somali-Americans to hold the mayoral seat in Hopkins, a milestone that he believes would symbolize progress for immigrant communities nationwide.

He noted that his campaign is grounded in inclusivity and the belief that all residents, regardless of background, deserve equal access to opportunities and services.
