Education in Somalia is going through a very tough time because the country has been dealing with conflicts poverty and bad management for many decades. When you look at the school system right now it is easy to see that millions of young children are missing out on their basic right to learn. This happens because the whole system is broken and needs urgent help from both the local government and international partners.

A lot of families want their kids to go to school and have a better future but they simply cannot find a safe place or an affordable option near their homes. It is a sad situation that keeps the country from growing and building a stable society for the next generation.

Many people do not realize how deep these problems go until they visit the rural areas and smaller towns outside the main cities. Children are often left with no books no desks and no proper classrooms to sit in during the day. This lack of support makes it almost impossible for young minds to get the skills they need to escape poverty.

The massive problem of education in Somalia regarding schools and teachers

When we discuss education in Somalia we have to talk about the huge shortage of proper school buildings and trained instructors across the nation. There are simply not enough schools to welcome all the children who want to study and many existing buildings are totally destroyed or unsafe. Because of this education in Somalia becomes a luxury that only a few lucky families can afford in the big cities. On top of having very few buildings there is an even bigger crisis when it comes to the people who are supposed to teach. Most teachers do not have any official training and they do not get paid a regular salary which means they often leave to find other work.

Without proper teachers who know how to manage a classroom education in Somalia cannot improve even if new schools are built by charities. Many classrooms end up with over sixty students crammed into one tiny space with only one untrained teacher trying to handle them all. This creates a very poor learning environment where kids spend hours sitting around without actually absorbing any useful knowledge. If the instructors are not supported with good training and fair wages the schools will remain completely empty of real learning.

The ongoing instability is another major reason why education in Somalia is failing to reach the children who need it most. Many families are constantly moving from one place to another because of droughts floods or sudden outbreaks of violence between different groups. When a family is forced to flee their home their children have to drop out of school immediately and they rarely find a way to go back. This constant disruption means that even the kids who start primary school often stop attending before they can even learn how to read or write properly.

Furthermore the government does not spend enough money from the national budget on building up the school network. Most of the available funds go toward security and military operations which leaves education in Somalia with almost zero financial support from the state. This means that private individuals or expensive organizations run most of the schools and they charge high fees that poor parents cannot pay. When a father has to choose between buying food for his family or paying for school fees he will always choose food which leaves the kids out on the streets.

To fix these big issues the country needs a long term plan that focuses heavily on training teachers and building safe classrooms. We cannot expect a nation to recover from war if the youth do not know how to read or write.
