Global Energy Shift is the main reason why the UAE Ambassador to the United States wrote a very important piece in the Financial Times on May 6 2026. Yousef Al Otaiba explained to the world why his country decided to leave OPEC after sixty years. This was not a small choice. It came from a deep look at how the world works now compared to the past. The ambassador said that the world is moving into a new era and the UAE needs to move with it. This move is about being smart and ready for what comes next in the world economy.

Why a Global Energy Shift matters for trade

The first thing to understand is that the UAE is not just a place for oil anymore. When they first joined the group a long time ago oil was everything for them. But things have changed a lot since then. Now less than twenty five percent of the money the country makes comes from energy. This shows a big Global Energy Shift in how the country makes its living. They have built amazing businesses in things like flying planes and moving goods around the world. They also do a lot of work in artificial intelligence and medicine. They want to be a place of knowledge and not just a place that pumps oil out of the ground.

Another big part of this is the trade deals they are making. In the last four years the UAE has signed thirty five huge deals with different countries. This includes places like India and South Korea and Indonesia. They are also working on a massive deal with the United States worth over one trillion dollars. These deals are about building a network across the whole planet. By leaving the group they have more room to make these deals work for them. They dont have to wait for a big group of other countries to agree on what to do.

A Global Energy Shift and new production

The third point is about the power to produce. The UAE has spent a lot of money on new pipes and big ports to move more oil.

They want to be able to produce five million barrels every single day by the year 2027. If they stayed in the old group they would have to keep some of that power turned off to follow the rules. But the world needs a Global Energy Change where energy is easy to get and not too expensive. The UAE feels they have a responsibility to provide this energy to everyone. They dont want to leave their expensive tools sitting idle while the world needs power.

Fourthly we have to look at the green energy side of things. The UAE is using the money it makes from oil to build the future of clean energy. A company called Masdar is already working in forty different countries to build solar and wind power. They also have a nuclear plant at home. This is part of the Global Energy Shift because they are moving away from only using fossil fuels. They are taking the profits from today and putting them into the technology of tomorrow. This way they stay as leaders in the energy world even when the world stops using oil.

    Security and the final decision

The last point is about the politics of the region. The ambassador mentioned that Iran is still a member of the group even though it has caused trouble for ships and energy buildings in the Gulf. For the UAE it was hard to stay in a team with a country that acts that way. This political problem made the Global Energy Change even more necessary for them. They want to work with partners who care about safety and keeping the world steady.

    Global Energy Shift

In the end the Global Energy Shift means the UAE is looking at the next fifty years. They want to be a global hub for business and a place where smart people come to work. They are not just an oil state anymore.

They are a modern country with many different ways to make money and help the world. The Global Energy Shift gave them the chance to stand on their own feet and make their own choices. Since the Global Energy Shift started the country has seen so much growth. The Global Energy Shift is truly the start of a new chapter. By following the Global Energy Shift the UAE is leading the way for others. Finally the Global Energy Shift shows that they are ready for the future.
