Somalia’s Ministry of Communications and Technology has taken a major step toward enhancing the nation’s digital infrastructure by partnering with local telecommunications companies.
This partnership will improve service quality and strengthen public-private cooperation, reflecting the government’s growing focus on building a sustainable and inclusive digital economy.
National Consultation Shapes Digital Strategy 2025–2030
Earlier this month, the Ministry held a National Multi-Stakeholder Consultation in partnership with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to discuss Somalia’s Digital Transformation Strategy for 2025–2030.
This strategy is a roadmap designed to guide the country’s technological growth and integration into the global digital ecosystem.
High-Level Dialogue with Local Telecommunications Companies
During a high-level meeting in Mogadishu, Minister of Communications and Technology Mohamed Adam Moalim met with senior executives from major local telecommunications companies. During the meeting they assessed progress, addressed challenges, and aligned visions for a connected Somalia.
Moalim emphasized that the Somali government remains deeply committed to advance the nation’s digital transition.
He underscored the importance of innovation, modern infrastructure, and reliable communication services in shaping the country’s development goals.
“Our objective is to position Somalia as a leader in embracing modern technology,” said Minister Moalim.
“We are committed to delivering digital services that improve the lives of our citizens while involving local professionals and experts.”
This meeting marks a significant part of a broader government initiative to deepen collaboration between the public and private sectors.
By fostering dialogue and joint planning, the Ministry aims to accelerate Somalia’s digital growth, attract investment, and strengthen the country’s telecommunications landscape within East Africa.
Local telecommunications companies, including Hormuud Telecom, Somtel, Telesom, and Golis Telecom — play a central role in this transformation.
Their continued innovation in mobile services, internet expansion, and digital payments has been instrumental in connecting millions of Somalis nationwide.
Vision
As Somalia continues to rebuild and modernize, the focus on technology-driven development remains at the heart of its progress.
Through strong partnerships, forward-looking policies, and a unified national strategy, Somalia is setting the stage to become a regional hub for innovation, digital services, and sustainable growth.
