The holiday will span:

What Happens If Eid al-Adha Falls on a Friday?
The Ministry also clarified that if Eid coincides with a Friday, the official holiday begins the following Saturday, ensuring workers still receive a full, uninterrupted break.
This legal provision helps preserve rest time and allows the Somali workforce to fully engage in religious rituals, family activities, and cultural traditions during the Eid season.

Why Eid al-Adha Is So Important
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most sacred dates on the Islamic calendar. It honors the story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command — a story that symbolizes faith, devotion, and obedience.
The holiday marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage and is celebrated by:
- Attending large congregational Eid prayers
- Offering ritual sacrifices of livestock (Qurbani)
- Donating to the needy and poor
- Hosting festive family meals and gatherings
Eid al-Adha is a time of reflection, giving, and unity — a moment for Somali families to come together in celebration.
