Puntland has launched Operation HILAAC, a large-scale military campaign against Al-Shabaab and ISIS fighters in the Kal Muscad mountains. The main objective of the operation is to destroy the terrorists’ safe havens and restore peace and order in the region. Officials say the operation will continue until all militant threats are completely eliminated.

Objectives of Operation HILAAC Against Al-Shabaab Militants

Puntland has launched Operation Halaq to eliminate more than 500 Al-Shabaab and ISIS fighters in the Kal Muscad mountains. The operation involves 1,500 security personnel, who are destroying at least 40 militant hideouts with the help of modern weapons and aerial surveillance.

Impact of The Operation on Al-Shabaab Militants’ Strongholds

Since the start of Operation HILAAC, Puntland forces have recaptured 300 square kilometers of territory from the militants and cut off 60 percent of Al-Shabaab’s supply network. More than 100 fighters have been killed or captured so far, severely damaging their combat capability.

Puntland’s Future Plans After Targeting Al-Shabaab Militants

Puntland plans to deploy an additional 2,000 troops to thwart attempts by al-Shabaab militants to regroup. Government officials are working to establish 10 new checkpoints and improve the intelligence system to strengthen security in the region, to ensure long-term peace and stability.

Puntland’s Operation HILAAC al-Shabaab is a major breakthrough against militants, aimed at destroying the militants’ strongholds and regaining control of key areas. The operation is part of efforts to establish lasting peace in the region and limit the activities of terrorist groups. Sustained military operations and a strong strategy will play a key role in preventing the militants from returning.
