Somalia Humanitarian Forum 2025 (CHF 2025) officially opened on 06 – August in Baidoa, the interim capital of South West State.
Organized by the Somali Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), the high-level conference brought together key national and international stakeholders to forge a unified and inclusive response to Somalia’s complex humanitarian needs.
What is the Theme of Somalia Humanitarian Forum 2025
With the theme “Enhancing Humanitarian Effectiveness Through Coordination, Resilience, and Local Leadership,” CHF 2025 serves as a critical platform.
It reviews, aligns, and strengthens humanitarian operations across Somalia.
The forum has attracted broad participation from federal and state-level government bodies, UN agencies, international donors, humanitarian organizations, civil society groups, and NGOs, both local and international.
Addressing Somalia’s Urgent Humanitarian Challenges
Somalia continues to face devastating climate-induced shocks, protracted displacement, widespread food insecurity, and inadequate access to essential services.
In response, Somalia Humanitarian Forum 2025 focused on five core priorities:
- Improving coordination mechanisms between federal, state, and humanitarian actors.
- Enhancing the efficiency and transparency of humanitarian financing.
- Empowering local leadership in disaster response and recovery.
- Building long-term community resilience in drought and flood-affected areas.
- Promoting inclusive decision-making and accountability in humanitarian programming.
SoDMA Reaffirms Commitment to National Leadership
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner of SoDMA reaffirmed Somalia’s determination to take the lead in shaping its humanitarian strategy.
He urged donors and international partners to align their support with Somali-led plans that emphasize sustainability, local ownership, and long-term solutions.
The forum also provides a crucial space to identify gaps in existing response frameworks and propose practical, joint action points to bridge them.
Baidoa: A Symbolic and Strategic Host City
The selection of Baidoa as the host city underscores its strategic importance in Somalia’s humanitarian landscape.
As a hub for displaced communities and aid operations, South West State has a unique perspective and expertise in managing complex emergencies.
Somalia Humanitarian Forum 2025 concluded with a set of concrete recommendations, renewed partnerships, and a coordinated roadmap that will guide Somalia’s humanitarian actions in 2025 and beyond.
