The recent SoDMA high-level meeting in Mogadishu aims at strengthening humanitarian cooperation and improving aid delivery across Somalia.

The meeting focused on enhancing coordination between government institutions, international organizations, and humanitarian actors to ensure more effective and timely response to the country’s pressing humanitarian challenges.

Held in Mogadishu, SoDMA high-level meeting brought together a wide array of key stakeholders, including:

    • Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Abdiqafaar Elmi Hange
    • Deputy Governor of Finance for Banadir Region, Mr. Isse Gure
    • Senior Federal Government Officials
    • UN Agencies and International NGOs
    • Local NGOs, Religious Leaders, Civil Society Organizations
    • Representatives of the Somali Private Sector

The core objective of the forum was to formulate a new strategic approach to humanitarian response, emphasizing collaboration, partnership, and shared responsibility between the government and aid partners.

A Push for Unified Emergency Response

Commissioner of SoDMA, Mr. Mahmoud Moallin, underscored the urgency of building a unified national response framework.

“The goal is to ensure that humanitarian aid is delivered swiftly, transparently, and reaches the most vulnerable populations efficiently,” he stated during the forum.

Deputy Minister Hange highlighted the country’s economic strides in 2024, citing a notable increase in agricultural and livestock production — a signal of Somalia’s gradual move toward economic self-reliance and resilience.

Drought and Urgent Appeals for Aid

Speakers including Banadir’s Deputy Governor of Finance Mr. Isse Gure and Sheikh Baahiir Ahmed Salaad of the Somali Chamber of Commerce called for immediate humanitarian support in response to the ongoing drought crisis.

Religious leaders and civil society representatives echoed the plea, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in alleviating suffering.
