Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has praised the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its wise and visionary leadership under Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
He highlighted the UAE’s consistent support for Arab unity and joint action, emphasizing that cooperation and solidarity are essential pillars for overcoming the challenges facing the Arab world.
Somalia and the UAE Strategic Ties
During a meeting with Mohammed Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, held on the sidelines of an official visit to Egypt, Somalia President Mohamud expressed deep appreciation for the historic and strategic ties between Somalia and the UAE.
He also commended the UAE’s significant role in supporting Somalia’s development efforts and long-standing commitment to its stability and progress.
President of the Arab Parliament Commends Somalia President
Al Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s support for Somalia’s journey toward comprehensive development and praised President Mohamud’s leadership.
He highlighted the significance of the “New Mogadishu” initiative, launched by the Somali President in December 2024, as a step forward in Somalia’s modernization and rebuilding process.
He also emphasized the importance of Somalia’s newly acquired role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, beginning in January 2025.
Stating that this position will strengthen Somalia’s voice in defending Arab causes on the global stage.

Somalia President : National Consultations Forum to Launch June 15
In a separate announcement, Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially confirmed the launch of the National Consultations Forum, scheduled to open in Mogadishu on June 15, 2025.
This vital gathering will bring together leaders from across Somalia’s political and civil landscape.
The forum follows weeks of preparatory consultations with former presidents, state leaders, political parties, and civil society representatives.
The initiative is rooted in the President’s longstanding call for inclusive national dialogue aimed at building consensus on key state-building priorities.
Key State-Building Priorities Include:
- National security and counter-terrorism
- Democratic transformation and electoral processes
- Constitutional completion
- National unity and reconciliation
President Mohamud stressed the importance of genuine consultations grounded in the collective interest of the Somali people and pledged to continue preparatory meetings leading up to the forum.
He called on all political leaders, community representatives, and civil society groups to actively participate and engage in shaping Somalia’s future governance framework.
A technical coordination committee, chaired by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Hassan Moalim Mahmoud, has been appointed to oversee the forum’s logistical and planning efforts.
