AU Reaffirms Support for Somalia’s Peace Path
Chairperson Youssouf reaffirmed the African Union’s steadfast commitment to supporting Somalia’s peacebuilding efforts.
President Mohamud expressed deep appreciation for the AU’s sustained support and the warm reception in Addis Ababa.
This strategic dialogue followed the recent arrival of El Hadji Ibrahima Boly Diene, the newly appointed Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), who landed in Mogadishu just hours earlier.
Key Focus Areas of Addis Ababa Discussions
A key focus of the discussion was mobilizing funding for AUSSOM, the successor to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
Both the AU and the Somali government underscored their shared commitment to securing long-term financial support for AUSSOM, which plays a pivotal role in Somalia’s path toward lasting peace and stability.
