More than one hundred non-governmental organizations (NGOs) issued a stark warning on Wednesday about the imminent threat of “mass famine” in Gaza, where an unprecedented humanitarian crisis is unfolding daily.
With the war continuing for over 21 months, international pressure is intensifying on Israel to halt military operations and open secure corridors for essential humanitarian aid to reach millions of desperate civilians.
The joint statement from the NGOs comes as the United States announced its envoy, Steve Witcoff, will travel to Europe for talks aimed at finalizing arrangements for a humanitarian aid “corridor” into the besieged territory.
“Famine is Knocking on Every Door”: The Cost of the Humanitarian Crisis
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip has reached catastrophic levels.
According to Al-Shifa Medical Complex, 21 children have died in the last 72 hours alone “due to malnutrition and famine.”
This tragic reality underscores warnings from the United Nations, which has stated that “famine is knocking on every door” in the war-torn enclave.
Echoing this dire assessment, UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the horrors in Gaza as having “no parallel in recent history.”

A Unified Call for Action from Global Organizations
The coalition of over 100 NGOs includes prominent international bodies such as:
- Doctors Without Borders (MSF)
- Amnesty International
- Oxfam International
- Doctors of the World
- Caritas
In their joint statement, these organizations described the grim reality on the ground: “With mass famine spreading throughout the Gaza Strip, our colleagues and the people we help are wasting away.”
They issued three urgent demands:
- An immediate and sustained ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
- The opening of all land crossings into Gaza.
- Guaranteed free and safe flow of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Strip.
Aid Blocked While Needs Soar
The humanitarian crisis is exacerbated by the inability to deliver available aid.
The NGOs’ statement highlighted a critical bottleneck: “Just outside the Gaza Strip, in warehouses—and even inside—tons of food, drinking water, medical supplies, shelter materials, and fuel remain unused, as humanitarian organizations are not allowed to access or deliver them.”
This comes just a day after the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights accused the Israeli army of killing more than a thousand people at aid distribution points in Gaza since the end of May.
The combination of active conflict and access restrictions has created a deadly environment for both civilians seeking aid and the humanitarians trying to provide it.
A Race Against Time to Prevent Mass Starvation
After more than 21 months of devastating war, the situation in Gaza has deteriorated into a full-blown humanitarian crisis.
The unified voice of over 100 NGOs, combined with repeated warnings from the United Nations, paints a clear picture: without an immediate ceasefire and unfettered access for aid, Gaza is facing a mass famine that will threaten the lives of millions.
The international community is in a race against time to prevent this catastrophe from unfolding.
