Somali government forces, supported by foreign troops from the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), successfully stopped Al-Shabaab attack on Friday in Lower Shabelle region.

The joint operation killed 18 Al-Shabaab militants.

Rapid Response Saves Strategic Area from Al-Shabaab Attack

Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers, along with the Ugandan People’s Defense Force (UPDF), quickly responded to Al-Shabaab attack in the villages of Sabiib and Canoole.

The Defense Ministry stated that troops were alert and ready, preventing the terrorists from taking control of the area.

    Casualties and Ongoing Efforts

Sadly, four Somali soldiers lost their lives and seven others were injured during the operation.

Efforts to locate and pursue remaining al-Shabaab fighters are still underway.
The army received strong support from international partners who launched airstrikes, causing significant damage to the militant group.

What is Somalia Biggest Threat that Lies Within?

    Strategic Villages Reclaimed

This clash follows the Somali army’s recent victory in retaking the key villages of Anole and Sabid in late June.

These areas are crucial for military operations and connect major points in the southwest province of Lower Shabelle.

    Al-Shabaab’s Long Insurgency

Al-Shabaab has been fighting against the Somali government for over 16 years and often targets soldiers, officials, and civilians in its attacks.
