U.S. President Donald Trump was not awarded 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, despite playing a key role in brokering a historic ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that ended more than two years of conflict.
According to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the decision had already been made two days before the peace deal was finalized.
Public Reaction and Trump’s Peace Efforts
Scenes from Tel Aviv and Gaza following the ceasefire announcement showed crowds celebrating the end of the war, with some chanting Trump’s name and calling for him to receive the prestigious award.
Trump’s supporters have praised his diplomatic achievements throughout his second term.
Pointing to his involvement in easing global tensions beyond the Middle East.
His administration has been credited with mediating between Russia and Ukraine, and promoting peace talks in conflicts involving the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, India and Pakistan, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Serbia and Kosovo.
Who Nominated Trump for Nobel Peace Prize?
Republican Congressman Andy Barr recently nominated Trump for Nobel Peace Prize, describing his record as “extraordinary.”
In a letter to the committee, Barr wrote:

Who Got 2025 Nobel Peace Prize?
The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize instead went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, recognized for her commitment to democracy and human rights.
Committee chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes explained on Friday that the decision followed strict guidelines based on the vision of Alfred Nobel, the founder of the prize, saying:
“We get thousands of letters every year with suggested candidates for peace, but our decisions rely only on courage, integrity, and the principles outlined by Nobel himself”.
Criticism for Trump
While Trump’s diplomatic efforts have drawn international attention, critics argue that his record remains controversial.
They cite incidents such as June bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities.
In addition to his proposals to rename the U.S. Department of Defense as the Department of War as evidence that his actions are inconsistent with the principles of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Historical Context
Historically, four U.S. presidents have received the Nobel Peace Prize — Theodore Roosevelt (1906), Woodrow Wilson (1920), Jimmy Carter (2002), and Barack Obama (2009).
Despite missing out this year, sources close to Trump suggest his team views 2026 as a stronger opportunity for recognition.
Especially after his recent successes in global diplomacy and conflict resolution.
