159 girls wearing hijab have been expelled from a private school in Ethiopia due to modernism. This school action was against religious freedom, due to which the media and some NGOs have strongly reacted and criticized. The Supreme Islamic Council has also strongly condemned this practice and has said that this practice of the school is completely against religious freedom. By doing this, chaos will spread, and people will make their girls sit at home instead of going to school.

While in Ethiopia, due to natural disasters and tribal laws, about 9 million children are already deprived of going to school. The government of Ethiopia should take strict action against this practice so that no institution again dares to do such a practice that hurts people religiously.

Hijab Ban Sparks Educational Exclusion for Muslim Girls in Ethiopia

Some schools in Axum, Ethiopia have expelled Muslim girls from school for wearing the hijab. This action is causing intense anger in the Muslim community and increasing hatred against institutions. This act is equivalent to taking away religious freedom from the Muslim community.

In a place where almost 9 million children are already deprived of education, such actions can make the education system more difficult. There has been an attempt to create a barrier for the children of the Muslim community to get an education, against which the Ethiopian government should take strict action.

Condemnation of Religious Discrimination by the Supreme Islamic Council

In Ethiopia, when 159 girls were expelled from school simply because they wore the hijab, it caused outrage in the Muslim community. And then the Supreme Islamic Council of Tigray in Ethiopia strongly opposed this law which is against religious freedom and tolerance.

Such an act shows enmity with religion and Islam. Making such laws where already about 9 million children are deprived of education is equivalent to creating obstacles in the education of Muslim children. The Supreme Islamic Council has demanded the immediate abolition of such laws.

Broader Implications for Education Amid Ethiopia’s Ongoing Crises

Due to political instability, terrorism, and conflict, Ethiopia’s education system is already in ruins and nearly 9 million children are deprived of education. Suddenly making such rules that children of the Muslim community cannot go to school just because they wear hijab will cause serious problems.

The Hijab ban will be a major obstacle in Ethiopia’s education system. There are already many challenges in children’s education and now there is a new addition to these challenges that threatens to worsen the situation. The government should immediately abolish such laws so that it is easy for all communities to get an education.

It is said that a pen is more powerful than a sword. Ethiopia is already suffering from challenges such as conflict, terrorism, and political instability. By making such laws here, more religious hatred will spread in the country and communities will suffer chaos, and the situation will worsen. The government should give complete religious freedom to all communities so that their children can become the cause of a good future for the country by reading and writing.
