When the conflict intensified in Somalia, many problems arose, the most important of these problems were security, peace and order, unemployment, and an unsafe environment for women. And then after the end of the conflicts, the women became the cause of excellent performance in other affairs of the country including politics. Women have made significant progress in politics, advocacy, and peacebuilding. Women in Somalia have faced all kinds of challenges and proved themselves fully empowered in every field.

    Women in Political Leadership

The entry of women into politics in Somalia is surprising. Here, women are getting seats in federal and provincial parliaments in large numbers. But despite this, there are still social norms and security threats regarding women in Somalia. Here, gender quota with reserved seats for women indicates better policy measures.

    Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship

In Somalia, women are seen playing their role in business and trade as well as in other sectors. Many women are doing their small and many big businesses online sitting at home. Now the era is ending when women only stayed at home, did housework, and endured domestic violence. Now they are gaining authority in every field of life, they are running their affairs and contributing to the livelihood of the country.

    Gender-Based Violence and Legal Reforms

In every era, women have been considered weak and because of this weakness, they have been subjected to various kinds of violence. In Somalia, women are considered weak based on gender and are subjected to domestic violence and sexual violence. But now in Somalia, this behavior is changing, and many women are becoming empowered. Women now look ahead in every field of life. In Somalia, women are also seen in large numbers in politics and advocacy. But still many policy measures are needed to secure women’s rights and many women’s organizations are doing good work for these measures.

Education and Healthcare Access for Women

Since Somalia is a poor country, the rate of poverty here is much higher than in other countries, that’s why women are discriminated against here. Here, it is not easy for women to go to educational institutions due to social norms. Women stay at home and are victims of domestic violence. Many organizations are working for the basic rights of women. Here, many practical steps are needed to make access to education and health care possible for women. Here in Somalia, women are married at a young age, which makes them lag behind men in other aspects of life.

After the conflict in Somalia, women have been given basic rights in every sphere of life. Now women are playing their role in the fields of politics, advocacy, technology, health, education, and trade. But still, women in Somalia are deprived of their basic rights. And many organizations are working for women’s rights. Many steps are still needed to empower women. Law enforcement agencies should provide all kinds of protection to women. And they should be given gender quotas in every sector at the level of equality.
