Puntland forces arrested a top Islamic State commander during a special operation in the Bari region. Behind the operation was a months-long intelligence-gathering effort, which led to the arrest of the terrorist leader. Security forces seized important weapons and documents linked to Daesh operations, severely damaging the group’s activities. This arrest is being described as a serious blow to the presence of ISIS in the region. Puntland authorities have vowed to step up efforts to dismantle the extremist network, reiterating their commitment.

Details of the ISIL Commander’s Capture in Puntland

An ISIS commander was captured by more than 200 special forces after months of undercover surveillance. The operation lasted for 72 hours, involving the exchange of intelligence between local security agencies and international partners. During the operation, important ISIS documents and encrypted communication devices were also seized.

Impact of the Arrest on ISIL’s Operations in Somalia

The arrest of a senior ISIS commander has had a profound impact on the group’s activities in the region, with 30 percent of its local leadership likely to be affected. The information gained during the operation is expected to expose the structure of the group’s supply chain and recruitment network. In the future, the group’s ability to plan major attacks is likely to drop by 40 percent.

Security Measures Strengthened Following the Capture

As a result of the arrest, Puntland has set up 100 new checkpoints on key routes. Patrols at sensitive locations have increased by 50 percent, and advanced surveillance equipment has been installed to monitor the movements of potential extremist groups. These measures are expected to reduce militant activities in the area by 30 percent in the next six months.

Puntland’s Ongoing Efforts to Combat Extremism

Puntland has stepped up its operations against extremism, deploying 500 additional personnel for targeted operations. The region has also increased its cooperation with international counter-terrorism forces, which is expected to increase local intelligence-sharing capacity by 60 percent. The long-term strategy aims to reduce extremism-related incidents in Puntland by 50 percent over the next year.

The arrest of a top ISIS commander is a major achievement for Puntland’s security forces, which is hurting the group’s operational capability in the region. Strengthened security measures and ongoing international cooperation are expected to further reduce militant activities. These measures will play an important role in maintaining long-term peace and stability in Puntland.
