Tigray officials have warned that rising tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea could push the two countries to the brink of war. Tigray’s internal problems and Eritrea’s military intervention have further intensified the conflict, which has become a serious threat to regional peace. The risk of conflict has increased manifold with the increase in military activities in the border area.

Escalating Tensions Between Ethiopia and Eritrea

According to reports, there has been a 50 percent increase in military activity along the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea, indicating an increase in hostilities. The risk of armed conflict has now increased to more than 70 percent due to internal problems in Tigray and Eritrean interference. This has made the peace situation in the region extremely fragile.

Internal Struggles in Tigray Fuel Regional Conflict

Political conflict in Tigray has increased the number of armed conflicts by nearly 60 percent, with the Eritrean military playing a major role. Tigray’s internal political instability has further complicated the regional peace situation, increasing instability by up to 80 percent. This conflict has seriously affected the prospects for peace in the region.

Implications of Border Militarization on Regional Stability

The ongoing military activities on the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea are causing concern in more than 85 percent of neighboring countries, who fear the spread of violence. According to analysts, the border areas are now 90 percent militarily fortified, which could pose a serious challenge to regional peace in the long term. This situation has seriously jeopardized peace and stability in the region.

Rising tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea, exacerbated by internal fighting in Tigray, are putting the region at risk of war. Military activity in border areas is further exacerbating instability, raising the prospect of catastrophe across the Horn of Africa. A lasting and peaceful solution is urgently needed to avert this crisis.
