As part of its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen national security, the Somali National Army carried out a high-level military security operation in Hiran region at Hirshabelle state in central Somalia on Thursday.

The operation resulted in the killing of 10 members of the terrorist group known locally as “Khawarij,” a term used by Somali authorities to refer to the extremist Al-Shabaab movement.

According to a statement from the Somali army, reported by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the operation is part of a series of ongoing military campaigns aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and disrupting their supply routes.

Details of the Security Operation in Hiran

Military sources confirmed that the security operation in Hiran was conducted with precise coordination between the national army and members of the local popular uprising.

The target was a group of Al-Shabaab militants operating approximately eight kilometers from the town of Halgan in the same region.

The operation successfully killed at least 10 terrorists and destroyed key hideouts and fortifications used for planning and launching attacks.

    International Support and Ground Progress

The Somali army emphasized that it continues to make tangible progress in its war on terrorism, thanks to ongoing support from international partners and effective cooperation with local communities.

This operation falls within a broader strategy to stabilize liberated areas and prevent extremist groups from regrouping.

Al-Shabaab: A Persistent Threat to Security and Stability

Al-Shabaab, an extremist group affiliated with Al-Qaeda, continues to carry out deadly attacks across Somalia, targeting government forces and civilians in an attempt to overthrow the government and impose a strict interpretation of Islamic law.

This security operation in Hiran stands as one of the most significant recent security achievements and highlights the Somali government’s firm commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring lasting peace to the country.
