A recent report from the Institute for the Study of War in the U.S. warns that ISIS in Somalia is still a growing threat.
Especially in the Puntland region, even after losing many fighters in recent military operations.

    Lack of Constant Pressure

The report says that security forces in Bari region (northeast Somalia) have weakened ISIS, but the group still has the ability to reorganize and launch attacks.

The report also mentions that the lack of constant pressure gives ISIS a chance to return.
Because the region is full of mountains and long coastlines that make it hard to control.

Recently, Puntland forces increased their operations in the Al-Miskad Mountains in Bari, capturing important areas and destroying weapon storage sites.

Houthi Fighters Are Smuggling Weapons to ISIS in Somalia

They also launched big security raids in cities like Bosaso, arresting many illegal migrants, to stop foreign fighters from joining ISIS in Somalia.

But the report warns that without a long-term security plan, ISIS could return.
There are also growing concerns about weapons smuggling from Yemen through the Red Sea, possibly with help from Houthi fighters.

So far, Puntland has not announced any plan to keep security forces in the Al-Miskad mountains after the current operation, which experts see as a major risk.

$30,000 Reward for Information on Mortar Attacks in Mogadishu

Meanwhile in Mogadishu, the police commander of Benadir region, Maalim Mahdi, announced a $30,000 reward for anyone who gives credible information leading to the arrest of people firing mortar shells in the capital.

Mahdi asked residents of Mogadishu and nearby areas to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activity.

He promised that police will protect anyone who comes forward with information.

This new reward is part of efforts to encourage public support and stop terrorist attacks.
Recently, eight mortar shells hit areas near Aden Adde Airport, one of the most heavily guarded places in Mogadishu.

The attack caused panic among civilians and workers.

The airport is very important for the Somali government, aid groups, and foreign diplomats.
That makes it a frequent target for terrorist groups.
