The Situation in Somalia is becoming very hard to watch because the leaders seem to be moving away from the path of peace and law. Many people are worried that the country is sliding back into a dark place where power is more important than the will of the people. The situation in Somalia is currently a mix of political games and a lack of care for the rules that should keep everyone safe.

One of the biggest problems right now is how the federal government is handling the upcoming elections in places like Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and the South West State. Instead of letting people choose their leaders fairly, the government is forcing unwanted candidates on these regions. This makes the whole process look like political appointments rather than a real vote. When you see the situation in Somalia and these fake elections, it is clear that transparency is being ignored just to keep certain people in power.

Understanding the Situation in Somalia and the Constitution

Time is running out for the current administration, and this is creating a lot of tension in Mogadishu. The constitutional term for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to end very soon, specifically on May 15, 2026. This date is a major turning point because any attempt to stay in office after this day would be completely illegal and against the constitution.

People are asking what the situation in Somalia will look like if the President refuses to leave or tries to extend his time without a proper agreement? A legal extension is not an option under the current rules, and forcing one could lead to a massive crisis. Many citizens feel that the law should be respected above everything else to avoid more fighting. If the leaders don’t follow the timeline, they are basically telling the world that the rules don’t apply to them.

    Security Forces and Political Games

Another scary thing happening right now is how the military is being used. We know that international partners have spent millions of dollars training special forces to fight Al-Shabaab. However, President Hassan Sheikh is now being accused of using these same elite soldiers to target his political rivals instead of the terrorists.

When you think about the situation in Somalia, the fight should be about safety from extremists, not about scaring politicians who disagree with the government. This use of the army for politics is dangerous because it weakens the fight against real enemies and makes the public lose trust in the soldiers. The international community did not train these men to be tools for a political party, but that seems to be exactly what is happening on the ground today.

    Corruption and Land Grabbing

The government is also being blamed for taking things that don’t belong to them. In Mogadishu, there are many reports of the government seizing land from normal citizens and then selling it for profit. This kind of looting of national wealth is hurting families who have lived on their land for generations. To understand the situation in Somalia, you have to look at this economic unfairness.

Corruption like this makes the government look like a group that is only interested in making money rather than serving the public. When the state becomes the one stealing your home, there is nowhere left for the people to turn for justice. This greed is fueling a lot of anger in the capital.

    Growing Insecurity and Fear

Despite all the talk about progress, the security situation is still a mess. There is a constant state of lawlessness in Mogadishu and many other provinces across the country. Bombings and attacks are still happening, and the government doesn’t seem to have a real plan to stop them. Instead of focusing on this, they are busy with the political battles mentioned before. The situation in Somalia needs a leadership that puts the safety of the mother and child in the street first. The lack of control means that people live in fear every single day.

If you can’t walk to the market without worrying about an explosion, then the government has failed its most basic job.

    The Future of the Nation

Looking at the big picture, the next few weeks will decide the future for many years to come. The situation in Somalia depends on whether the President steps down on time and whether the elections are actually real. We cannot have a country where the leaders choose their own successors and use the army to silence anyone who complains.

The world is watching, but more importantly, the Somali people are watching. They deserve a government that follows the law and protects their land and their lives. If things continue this way, the stability of the whole region could be at risk. The situation in Somalia requires a return to honesty and a total respect for the constitution before it is too late. There is no more time for excuses or delays because the people have suffered enough already.

Knowing the situation in Somalia and how resilient the people are gives us hope, but that hope is fading under the current leadership. We must demand better before May 15 passes and the law is broken. The situation in Somalia represents a people who just want a fair chance at life.
