In a significant move to bolster counter-terrorism efforts, senior Somali government and Somali traditional elders held a crucial meeting with traditional elders in Tardo town, Hiiraan region.

The high-level delegation convened to strategize and intensify ongoing military operations against Al-Shabaab in the critical border areas of Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.

Somali Traditional Elders Unite for Security

The influential delegation was spearheaded by Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe, the Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

He was joined by key figures, including:

    • Sahal Abdullahi Omar, Commander of the Somali National Army Land Forces
    • Abdi Daahir Guur, HirShabelle’s Interior Minister
    • Several Members of Parliament representing Hawaadle clan.

This unified presence underscored the government’s commitment to a collaborative approach in the fight against extremism.

Community Cooperation: A Cornerstone of Success

The meeting’s primary focus was the vital role of local communities, particularly the Tardo elders and intellectuals, in partnering with federal and regional security forces.

Officials stressed the importance of sustaining momentum against Al-Shabaab, which has recently suffered significant territorial losses due to intensified military campaigns.

NISA Director Praises Somali Traditional Elders Efforts

NISA Director Sanbaloolshe highly praised the local efforts, stating:

“We commend the unity and bravery of the Tardo community and the broader Hawaadle clan in their unwavering support of the Somali National Army and Ma’awisley forces.”

This acknowledgement highlights the crucial part played by local militias in the ongoing operations.

Leaders urged residents to remain vigilant and continue their crucial support for national troops as they work to liberate key areas from extremist control.

In response, the Tardo elders and intellectuals warmly welcomed the delegation, reaffirming their steadfast commitment to resisting Al-Shabaab’s presence in their region.

    Sustained Pressure Across Central Somalia

This pivotal meeting comes amidst active operations in the border zones of Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle. Reports indicate that federal and HirShabelle forces, significantly bolstered by local Ma’awisley fighters, have achieved notable gains in recent days.

The Somali government has clearly signaled its intent to maintain relentless pressure on Al-Shabaab across central Somalia.

Tardo is strategically recognized as a vital community hub in this comprehensive anti-terror campaign.
The collective efforts of the government, security forces, and Somali traditional elders are paving the way for a more secure and stable future for Somalia.
