Somalia Palestine solidarity got a loud shout yesterday when the first counselor of the Somali embassy in Cairo joined hundreds at a big event marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The gathering took place at the Arab League headquarters, and Mr Abdullahi Mohamed Nur, the number two diplomat in the embassy, stood proudly waving the Somali flag beside the Palestinian flag. He told the crowd that Somalia will never turn its back on Gaza, no matter how hard things get.

Somalia and Palestine share a bond built over decades. Even in the 90s when Somalia had no strong government and the country was in chaos, the streets of Mogadishu still saw marches for Palestine. Today nothing has changed. The Somali embassy in Cairo keeps saying both nations understand pain, occupation and struggle. Mr Nur reminded everyone that Somalia has voted yes every time the UN called for Palestinian rights. He even joked that Somalia and Palestine are like cousins who never met but still feel like family.

After the speeches the crowd watched a short movie showing the situation in Gaza right now. The room went quiet and some people wiped tears. The Somali counselor stayed till the end shaking hands and taking photos with young people holding “Free Palestine” signs. One of the organizers said that Somalia Palestine solidarity makes the message stronger across Africa.

Somalia’s Support for Palestine Speaks Through Action

It is not just speeches. Somalia sent aid ships to Gaza when many stayed silent. Somali universities in Mogadishu and Hargeisa keep welcoming Palestinian students on scholarships. The embassy also runs a small medical support fund. Mr Nur said they are planning a big Somalia Palestine solidarity cultural week next year, with Somali poetry, Palestinian dabke, and shared music nights in Cairo.

Some Arab countries choose silence these days, but Somalia does not. Even when fuel is expensive and roads are rough, you still see Palestinian flags on Mogadishu taxis. Kids in camps draw the Palestinian flag on tents. The counselor said this kind of love comes from the heart and cannot be stopped.

Young Voices Join the Somalia Palestine Solidarity Chorus

A group of Somali medical students studying in Cairo came wearing macawiis and Palestine pins. One student named Fadumo said her grandmother taught her to pray for Palestine every night. She said seeing a Somali diplomat standing strong for Palestine made her proud, even though Somalia has its own problems.

The event ended with people singing “Mawtini,” then a Somali freedom song. People held hands and moved together. For a moment it felt like one family, not a room full of officials.

Before leaving, Mr Nur said the embassy doors will always be open for any solidarity work. He said Somalia Palestine solidarity is not only politics but shared struggle and shared hope. As he walked out with the Palestinian ambassador, cameras flashed and traffic honked like a celebration.

In a time when many countries look away, Somalia keeps looking toward Palestine. Yesterday in Cairo showed that again. Two flags stood side by side, and the message was simple and strong. Somalia stands with Palestine today, tomorrow and always.
