The Palestinian Presidency on Thursday condemned Israel’s latest settlement expansion plan, which calls for the construction of 3,401 housing units in the disputed E1 area between Jerusalem and the Ma’ale Adumim settlement.
Israel Settlement Plan Near Jerusalem Fuel Tension
In a statement published by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Presidential Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh warned that the newly announced settlement project — alongside the ongoing war in Gaza and rising settler violence — will only fuel further escalation, tension, and instability in the region.
Abu Rudeineh stressed that Israel settlement plan near Jerusalem is illegal under international law, citing UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirms that all Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the entire Gaza Strip, are illegitimate.

Dangerous Actions Related to Greater Israel Vision
He held the Israeli government fully responsible for what he described as “dangerous actions,” noting that the announcement of the latest Israel settlement plan near Jerusalem coincides with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks about his so-called “Greater Israel vision.”
The spokesperson also called on the United States to take action to stop Israel’s settlement expansion and other “irresponsible, aggressive measures,” warning that such policies undermine international legitimacy and violate international law.
