Somali Defense Board is the big news in Mogadishu this week after the Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, officially opened this new group on February 2, 2026. This is a very important moment because for many years, different security groups were working on their own, but now they will all sit at the same table to plan our national safety. This Somali Defense Board is designed to bring together the top leaders from the army, the police, and the intelligence agencies so they can speak with one voice and make faster decisions. The government says this move is part of a bigger plan to show the world that we are ready to take full responsibility for our land and sea without needing help from the outside forever. By starting the Somali Defense, Somalia is taking a giant step toward a professional military that can manage its own budget and its own battles against any threats that come our way.

    Somali Defense Board

The main reason why the Somali Defense was created right now is that the international forces are slowly packing their bags and going home. This Somali Defense will act as the “brain” of the military, making sure that when the foreign soldiers leave, there is no empty space left behind for the enemy to fill. During the first meeting in the capital, the leaders talked about how the Somali Defense Board will oversee the training of new soldiers and make sure every shilling spent on defense is used properly to buy the right equipment. Many international partners like the European Union and the African Union were at the meeting and they said the Somali Defense is exactly what the country needs to stay stable. It is not just about fighting; it is about building a modern system where everything is organized and everyone knows their job. This Somali Defense is a sign that the days of confusion are ending and a new era of national strength is beginning for every Somali citizen.

Goals for the Somali Defense Board in 2026

First, the Somali Defense Board will focus on unifying all the different military operations so that the army and the police are always helping each other during a crisis. Second, we will see the Somali Defense Board working on a “National Security Strategy” that looks at our borders and our oceans to keep out illegal ships and smugglers. Third, the Somali Defense is in charge of making sure that every soldier is paid on time and has the right food and medicine to stay strong in the field.

Fourth, through the Somali Defense, the government will start a new program to fix old military bases and build new ones in areas that were recently liberated from militants. Fifth, the Somali Defense Board will be the main point of contact for foreign countries that want to donate weapons or provide special training for our elite units. Sixth and finally, the Somali Defense will work to improve the “Command and Control” system so that orders from the top reach the soldiers on the front lines much faster than before.

Rebuilding the Future with the Somali Defense

We have waited a long time to see our leaders take this much control over our national destiny through the Somali Defense. It is a very proud day for the families of our soldiers to know that there is now a professional body looking after their sons and daughters who serve the nation. The Somali Defense Board is not just a fancy name; it is a promise that we will never go back to the days of state collapse and that we are building a shield that will last for generations. Of course, there will be many challenges and mistakes along the way, but having the Somali Defense Board means we have a place to fix those problems and keep moving forward.

The success of the Somali Defense Board will be measured by the peace that a regular person feels when they walk to the market or send their kids to school. We must all support this move and hope that the coordination and transparency promised by the board become a reality on the ground. The Somali Defense Board is our path to a safer and more prosperous home for everyone.
