Military Parade Showcases Somalia’s Defense Capabilities

As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the President was joined by General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, Chief of the Somali National Army.

The two leaders presided over a ceremonial military parade held at the Daljirka Dahsoon Monument on Maka Al-Mukarrama Road in Mogadishu.

    The parade featured:

    • Aerial displays by the Somali Air Force

Since the collapse of the central government in 1991, Somalia has struggled to rebuild.

Somaliland declared independence, Puntland operates autonomously, and Mogadishu remains the seat of a fragile federal government.

While the Somali flag remains a national symbol, it no longer reflects a fully unified state.

The 65th Independence Day celebration served as a reminder of Somalia’s historic unification in 1960 and the ongoing efforts to restore peace and cohesion across all regions.

The event also reflected the government’s commitment to reinforcing national identity and honoring the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom.
