The Somali Military Court has carried out the execution of two members of Al-Shabaab-linked extremist groups.
Following final verdicts that confirmed their involvement in targeted killings and terrorist activities in Mogadishu.

    Somali Military Court Official Statement

    According to the court statement:

“The two men — Suleiman Hussein Nur Ali (known as Ali Wasaif) and Abdulqadir Abubakar Ahmed (known as Nasruddin Wasabir) — were executed by firing squad on Thursday morning.
After being found guilty of conducting assassination operations in the capital Mogadishu.”

Officials stressed that the executions were conducted in accordance with Somali law and court procedures. Describing the move as part of wider efforts to uphold justice, deter terrorism, and reinforce national security.

    Background: Somalia’s Fight Against Al-Shabaab

The executions come amid Somalia’s intensified fight against Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group that has waged a violent insurgency for over 15 years.

The group is notorious for carrying out suicide bombings, assassinations, and large-scale attacks targeting civilians, government officials, and security forces across the country.

In recent months, Al-Shabaab has been linked to several deadly assaults, including car bombings in Mogadishu and raids on military bases in central and southern Somalia.

These attacks have resulted in significant casualties and continue to challenge the government’s efforts to stabilize the nation.

A Clear Message that Acts of Terrorism will Not Go Unpunished.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has vowed to step up counterterrorism operations, with support from African Union forces and international partners.

The government views the enforcement of the Somali military court rulings as a crucial step in sending a clear message that acts of terrorism will not go unpunished.

By executing convicted militants, Somali authorities aim to demonstrate both justice for victims and deterrence against future extremist activities, reinforcing the state’s commitment to restoring peace and security.
